Watching a movie on a properly set up surround sound system, or listening to your music through a new set of speakers can be an amazing experience. But, the key to a great home theater isn’t just spending a lot of money. Setting up the system correctly is just as important as what you buy. This guide, very simply, walks through the basics of speaker placement, how to hook everything up, and how to change a few settings to really make your system shine. Throughout this article are links to other articles that go into more depth on each topic. Be sure to also check out our related YouTube video discussions linked below for further insights. In most rooms you won’t be able to place your speakers in the perfect spots. It would be great if every room was designed with surround sound in mind, but alas, it isn’t. Still, there are some good rules to go by.

I have a much better understanding of ohm cooking. I have two combo amps. One is a Fender Superchamp X2. The one speaker out jack that the internal speaker is connected to says Minimum 8 ohms. The other amp is a Vox AC10 with a speaker out jack of 16 ohm. I found the Bugera TS On the back it has a 4ohm mono jack and a 16ohm mono jack. I know the Vox will work best through the 16 ohm mono jack. I think the Fender would work fine going to one of the jacks with the stereo switch engaged knowing that the output would only come through one of the speakers.
I think… Could I reasonably connect the Minimum 8 ohm out from the Fender to one of the mono 4 or 16 ohm jacks. The article intimated that it would be ok. Which would be better and why? Also, you mentioned several times in comments that folks should be careful or to take it easy when trying mismatched options. Can you elaborate on what you mean by that?

How do you hook-up or wire up one light with two on-off switches? For information on how to hook-up one light with two on-off switches, see the Related link “How to wire 3-way and 4-way switches, including wiring diagrams”, shown below. When using the correct size wire, there are severa…l possible configurations of power connection, lighting outlet, and the two 3-way switches. Power can come from the panel to one switch or the other, or to the light, whichever is convenient.
The light can be physically positioned between the switches or at the end of the two-switch series. Each configuration requires different handling of the hot, switched travelers, and neutral wires. In every case, there are runs that require three parallel conductors, whether for neutral, hot or travelers, not including any grounding wires. A 3-wire cable is highly recommended for this application. If there are more than two switch locations , a 4-way switch goes between the 3-way switches to crossover the two travelers.
Two 3-conductor cables are used for this portion, including a bypass connection for the un-switched hot. Asking this question shows you are probably not quite ready to take on this particular task. As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed.
Before you do any work yourself, on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

Wiring snake or wire coat hanger 1. With the higher quality kits, these cables often come with a ring terminal attached to one of their ends. Remember to disconnect your negative battery cable from the terminal before you start any electrical work on your car. You may have to peel back the carpet in the interior for a better view. That way you can just poke a hole through the grommet and run your power cable through. Once your hole is just big enough to pass the cable, protect the edges of the hole with some paint or rust inhibitor like POR Once the paint is dry, install a rubber grommet or firewall bushing into the hole to protect your cable from chaffing against the sharp metal edges.
Run the power cable through the grommet from the inside of the car with the ring terminal going towards the battery. As you route the cable inside the engine bay be sure the cable is far enough away from moving engine parts and anything that could pinch it. Caulk any gaps around the inner edge of the grommet if necessary. Leave the power cable disconnected from the battery for now.

The Most Important Audiophile Choice I decided to both expand upon, and yet still simplify, my earlier article, seen above, titled: Building a Great Audio System. This time I will argue that there is a single most important choice an audiophile can make when creating a great audio system or, at the least, creating the finest audio system for the least amount of money invested. That critical choice is unambiguously simple:
A proper subwoofer installation means that the power requirements between the amp and sub match, the impedance between the sub and amp are consistent, and the subwoofer is mounted in the correct box. Using a subwoofer wiring diagram will ensure that the impedance between the .
So far, I have only been able to use it once. Good support for bass guitar for the multipurpose room we were playing. The one sub handled my band nicely. The agreement was that the client “keeps” the system at their facility until their contract is up. The contract is for 12 months. They were convinced it was not necessary Rich, warm, “full” sounding.
And light enough that they can pack it away. Their facility is the multipurpose room, cafeteria-auditorium with stage, at the local Junior High. I would not use the SRM even if I owned a pair for those types of events. But, in the world of “small venue, budget priced, active subwoofers”, the SRM has served my client and I well.
One works fine for people in a worship service. One worked very well for supporting the low end of my band at that one “college alumni” event. If you happen to have an active crossover, you will appreciate the more focused low frequency reproduction.

Ask Question Step 3: I decided to not cut up my PSU cables as i may need the computer it came from at some point, you will need to find the pins shown in the pic, they are on the connector that was originally on your motherboard, the cables should be green and black, any black ground connector will do the trick. Now a quick check, turn on your PSU and if the fan spins you’re all set for the next step. Add Tip Step 4: Wiring Your Amp So you have your amp ready?
Back to the GEO Home Page *** SAFETY WARNING *** READ THIS FIRST!!!!! Working inside a tube amplifier can be dangerous if you don’t know the basic safety practices for this kind of work.
All you need to do to lower Imedence in a speaker is use less winds of a larger wire, you dont need the complications if have 2 seperat voice coils! Dual voice coils is what makes a sub a sub, otherwise it would just be a normal woofer. True that you dont get Stereo sound out of the Sub, but it maintains the 2 seperate signals so that they dont get mixed.
You got to remember when and why Subs came about. By adding 2 voice coils to a single speaker you can have a single Stereo Amp in your car, a single large Woofer and still maintain the seperate stereo channels. This si why Subs have 2 seperate speaker hookups, one for left, one for right, they never mix. We dont really need Subs like this nowdays as everything is done all in a single inexpensive AMP and it utputs the 3 differant channels and keeps the 2 stereo channels from mixing.

How to Wire 2 Subwoofers on a Mono Amplifier by Nichole Liandi If you’ve got a mono amplifier, you’ve got a great opportunity to really bring on the bass. Mono amplifiers are especially well-suited to wiring to two subwoofers. To wire two subwoofers to a mono amplifier, you need only know how to cut wire, use very simple tools and follow basic instructions.
Cut two lengths of speaker wire. The first should be long enough to reach from the amplifier to the first subwoofer, and the second long enough to reach from the first subwoofer to the second.

So what will we need to do this? But I doubt any of you guys will be using an amp that big. Walmart sells amplifier kits as do some other stores. The kits tell you how many watts they can handle. Add Tip Ask Question Step 2: Choosing an Amp and Speaker This can be a tricky step. You want to choose a speaker and amp that put out the most power, without blowing each other. What you want is the RMS of both the subwoofer speaker and the amplifier to be as close as possible.
The RMS is the amount of power a speaker can continuously have sent to it without going bad.

February 3, I have the AMP and am currently using it to power my 2 front speakers in my 7. Would the AMP be able to power the subwoofer in addition to my 2 front speakers? Also, which subwoofer do you recommend of the two noted?
Going for two amps one sub? In the car audio industry, this is called strapping or bridging and will certainly deliver that power you’ve been looking for – but the most important thing that you should know before even looking at a wire is that you can only connect two identical twin amplifiers.
But what the manufacturer is not showing you is the bandwidth vs. Quality of bass and how well it integrates into a system is paramount. If I have to sacrifice a bit of extension and SPL to achieve this, so be it. The Set-Up I left my EP towards the left front corner behind my couch as it has been for the past 3 years. I placed one EP on top of it and the other EP diagonally located towards the back right of the room.
Luckily the distance between both EP s was relatively equal to the primary listening area making it much easier to integrate them and not have to worry about bass cancellations due to mismanaged time alignment between the two subs. I checked the phase and found they integrated best with both subs set to 0 degrees default. I always recommend using symmetry when placing your subwoofers relative to the primary listening area.
The Analysis When setting up subwoofers in a home theater system, I always measure the response to ensure I am at least in the ballpark for great bass. I run sweeps using LMS or my Sencore SP C Audio Analyzer, adjusting placement, crossover settings, phase and electrical distance until I measure the most linear response at my two primary listening positions. After level matching the EP and two EP s, I was ready to do a direct comparison between them integrated into my family room theater.
As you can see the dual EP response is much more linear across the entire frequency range. Gone is the 10dB suckout centered around 48Hz. This is a fairly narrow suckout with a Q roughly 4.
